Campers arrive at Rock Creek Park daily and are picked Travel from the Camp meeting to the event site up by staff members and a licensed van service duration of the trip is approximately 20 minutes. Highlights: Living and playing in the park for 2 or 3 weeks, strong support for first-time campers, explore lava tube caves, climb a mountain, make new friends, learn about natural history and the environment in a fun, hands-on way.

An introduction to outdoor adventure and nature experience, the camp is specifically designed for younger and first-time campers. Camp members are monitored and guided through the nature preserve and Base Camp. The national park is an ideal place to explore the world around them in a safe and responsible way.
Each day, the campers will choose activities designed to engage them with their surroundings. The Camp naturalist will help the campers dive deeper into the natural world with activities such as animal tracking, hikes, streamside ecology, forestry and stargazing. With the help of our counselors and instructor, the campers will learn about the exciting world of nature all around.
Overnight campers will gain the true outdoor living experience. The camper’s group leader and staff instructors will provide support and structure for them throughout their stay. Many campers form bonds with their staff that last throughout the year.
For the overnight campers, Meals are prepared by our staff cook and eaten together in our circle of friendship or around our expedition kitchen. Each member of the camp will share in camp chores to develop responsible camping techniques, self-confidence and civic responsibility. The camp can cool off in the beach before dinner and evening games.
The camper will end each day by gathering around the campfire, something the group looks forward to each evening. The camper will learn many of the songs, games, and traditions that campers have loved for years. Some of the traditions are pure goofy fun and others will cause the camper to ask mature questions about nature and our society. At campfire, the campers will have a chance to relive the day and talk about what the next day holds.
Once the Camper has learned the routines and responsibilities of being part of an expedition, the group will venture from Base Camp on short excursions. They will take hiking trips into the Catoctin Mountain one of the four sacred mountains of the Navajo. In each session, the itinerary and challenges will be matched to the individual camper in the group to help them experience as much as possible.
The camper’s expedition is an eye-opening experience that can change how young people look at and interact with the world around them.
